Celebrating 40 Years of Community, Sport & Growth

Since 1984, Maleny Little Athletics has been a family-oriented club where children and teens aged 4 to 17 enjoy the sport of Track and Field in a supportive, inclusive, and community-focused environment.

We’re proud to be part of the Queensland Little Athletics and Australian Little Athletics Association, representing the Suncoast Region—spanning Gympie, Kingaroy, Deception Bay, and Wamuran.

Our Story

Maleny Little Athletics began at the Witta Sports Grounds in 1984, moved into town at Maleny Primary School in the late 1980s, and found a long-term home at Maleny High School in 2000. With access to a full 400m track and expanded facilities, we've continued to grow and thrive.

Each season we welcome 40–90 young athletes, with numbers often peaking during Olympic years. Across the years, we’ve seen countless children build skills, friendships, and a lifelong love for sport.

Weekly Events

Each week, our athletes participate in five varied events, offering a balanced and exciting introduction to athletics:

• Sprints: 70m – 200m

• Hurdles: 60mH – 200mH

• Long Distance: 400m, 800m, 1500m

• Race Walking

• Jumps: Long, Triple, High (Scissors & Flop)

• Throws: Shot Put, Discus, Javelin

Programs & Community

Maleny Little Athletics is more than a weekly meet—it’s a community hub that nurtures athletic development, confidence, and leadership in young people. Through sport, we build resilience, teamwork, and a strong community spirit.

Milestones & Celebrations

In 2012, we celebrated our 25th anniversary with a special event at the Maleny High School Activity Centre, uniting over 90 past and present athletes, families, and special guests. It was a proud moment for our club and the broader athletics community.

Now in our 40th year, we’re excited to make this season the biggest and best yet—with more events, more community engagement, and more opportunities for every child to shine.
